The rumors are true, American Idol runner-up Adam Lambert will join Queen for their performance at the 2012 Sonisphere Festival. Queen has confirmed that they will headline day two of the British Sonisphere festival; co-headliners are KISS and Faith No More.
Brian May and Roger Taylor have performed with Adam Lambert two previous times, once performing “We Are The Champions” on American Idol in 2009, and again in November 2011 at the MTV Europe Awards; that performance to celebrate Queen’s Global Icon Award.
Lambert was the runner-up on the 2009 season of American Idol, and has since released two solo albums.
The last singer to perform with Queen prior to Lambert was former Bad Company singer/songwriter Paul Rodgers. Rodgers performed with Brian May and Roger Taylor on tour throughout the UK and Europe in 2005 and 2008.
The Sonisphere Festival is set to take place on July 6, 7 and 8th at Knebworth Park. Apparently there are plenty of fans that approve of this move, as evidenced by this statement from Brian May:
"Judging by my incoming mail, this decision will make a lot of people very happy. It's a worthy challenge for us, and I'm sure Adam would meet with Freddie's approval! And what better place to revisit, and walk those emotional paths than Knebworth? It will be a rush."
