It can be very tough trying to find the perfect gift for a singer if you're not one yourself. Luckily, the pros here at PAL have you covered. We have the product knowledge to send you on the right track, even if you don't know the first things about mics and accessories. Below, we take a look at various pieces of gear priced under $100 that would make the perfect gift for the crooner in your life.
Much like the various models of guitar or bass out there, microphones can sound vastly different from one another, even if they look very similar. Furthermore, there is no single microphone out there that is the best at every single job. Because of this, it is common for singers to have a collection of mics so that they have the right mic for the task at hand. Basically, you can never have too many mics if you’re a singer. Below are some great mics priced below $100 that I can personally vouch for.[caption id="attachment_9498" align="alignleft" width="237"] HEIL SOUND PR 20 UT Dynamic Microphone[/caption] [caption id="attachment_9499" align="alignleft" width="237"] SE ELECTRONICS V3 Dynamic Microphone[/caption] [caption id="attachment_9500" align="alignleft" width="237"] AKG D5 Professional Dynamic Microphone[/caption]
Mic stands are guitar straps for guitarists – it’s an item we feel we can skimp on until we try out something better. There are a number of great stands out there but I personally like the stuff coming from Goby Labs or Ultimate Support. For a great boom stand that should last you years, I recommend the JS-MCFB100. It's been my go-to stand for a few months not and I have zero complaints. For a more traditional look, there's always the GBM-301 straight stand.[caption id="attachment_9501" align="alignleft" width="237"] Goby Labs GBM-301[/caption] [caption id="attachment_9502" align="alignleft" width="237"] Stands And Accessories[/caption] [caption id="attachment_9504" align="alignleft" width="237"] U.S. JS-MCFB100[/caption]
If there is one accessory a singer will always need in case of trouble, it's a mic cable. While mic cables (otherwise known as XLR cables) are pretty durable and can last years, they will inevitably break. The last thing a singer needs is for their only cable to break during a show, so having a backup or two is essential. There are a ton of different brands to choose from, but I would say anything in the $20+ range is a good bet as they tend to use better components, meaning they should last them a good while. If they record or plan on doing any serious recording, a pop filter is another great gift. Pop filters work by creating a mesh barrier between the singer and the microphone, calming down the bursts of air creating by pronouncing "P" and "B" sounds. These sounds can be highly audible on a recording and can give it an unpolished feel.[caption id="attachment_9506" align="alignleft" width="237"] FENDER 20' Mic Cable[/caption] [caption id="attachment_9507" align="alignleft" width="237"] Microphone Cables[/caption] [caption id="attachment_9508" align="alignleft" width="237"] Pop Filters[/caption]
