Line 6 is well known for their multi-effects products that come packing plenty of features. The AMPLIFi FX100 follows suit with all the bells and whistles you would expect from a Line 6 board. And just like its amplifier brothers – the AMPLIFi 75 and 150 – the FX100 comes with the ability to stream audio from any Bluetooth-equipped device along with an impressive tone matching capability, making jamming to your favorite guitarist easier than ever. And with the AMPLIFi Remote App (for iOS, Android and even the new Apple Watch), you can effortlessly control nearly every aspect of the board as well as create, share and download tones with Line 6’s online community.

The Features

The FX100 floorboard features 100 presets, over 200 amps, effects and speaker simulators, tap tempo, a tuner and host of connections, allowing you to play with headphones on, through a speaker, amplifier or pretty much any sound system. And with the included Bluetooth, you can stream audio simultaneously with any of the mentioned output connections. The FX100 also sports a rocker for use a volume or wah pedal.

As far as the presets go, they are divided into banks, each of which holds four presets which can then be selected using the four footswitches. You can switch individual banks by pressing two footswitches at once. Using the six knobs available (consisting of Drive, Bass, Mid, Treble, FX and Reverb) you can further craft each preset’s sound to your liking. The Master knob also doubles as a volume and wet/dry control, allowing you to dial in your desired mix of guitar and any music you’re streaming.

And with the tone matching ability, you can quickly and automatically match the tone of your favorite player through an internet-enabled feature that gives you suggestions based on songs from your library. Simply stream a song, fire up the tone matching feature and you have the ability to quickly and accurately jam out to any of your favorite tunes.

Creative Connectivity

Apart from its multitude of out of the box features, one of the main draws of the AMPLIFi FX100 is its cloud-based approach to tone creation and sharing; it takes advantage of a piece of gear most of us probably own – a smartphone – to give access to a ton of pro-level tones and share favorites with fellow players through an online community.

Using the AMPLIFi Remote app, the FX100 also allows you to intuitively create brand new sounds using the selection of the 200 amp, cabs and effects models and share them online. You can also rate each other’s custom tones for things such as accuracy or quality. And best of all, you can also use the app to control pretty much any feature on the board itself, from the EQ parameters, banks or even the order of the effects and models on your virtual signal chain.

There are a few limitations with the AMPLIFi Remote app though; there’s no way to create a pre-set tone from scratch – you’ll have to modify an existing preset for that – or even search for a familiar preset without playing a song first. Not a huge deal since it seems like the app was primarily designed to help you discover your favorite tones and stream music but it would have been nice to be able to build a tone from the ground up.

Built to Jam

It easy to see that Line 6 had the creative, modern player in mind when they came up with the FX100. As part of your setup, the FX100 can easily become the central hub for many of your guitar needs, be it practicing, jamming or even music writing. Exploring the features alone should keep you busy for hours, and that's not even including the custom tones that can be created and shared online. With 100 built-in presets, over 200 effects, amp and speaker models, the ability to match, craft and share tones through the cloud, the FX100 might very well be the future of the floorboard.
