Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl and former bandmate Krist Novoselic have teamed up once again and brought along “Nevermind” producer Butch Vig along for the ride. Vig announced via Twitter yesterday that the trio had been recording all day which included an unspecified special guest.

“The last 24 hours have been surreal! Had a great gig at the El Rey last night, and spent today recording with Dave, Krist and special guest!” (@butchvig)

Grohl, who apparently never has a day off in his life, has been busy the past few years with full time duties in his two bands, Foo Fighters and Them Crooked Vultures, along with his latest project, a documentary based on the famous - now closed - Sound City Studios where several classic records have been produced including Nirvana’s “Nevermind.”

Although the trio and mystery guest did not divulge the reason behind yesterday’s efforts, it can be assumed it will be connected with the Sound City documentary, as Grohl had previously announced that recordings with Corey Taylor, Josh Homme and others will appear on the film’s soundtrack.

The last time the trio joined forces was on the song “I Should’ve Known” from the Foo Fighters’ last album, “Wasting Light.”
