Since we can’t change the rules of electricity, manufacturers had to use those very same principles for their benefit, which gave us the humbucker which is essentially two single coil pickups placed next to each other. The hum cancelling properties of these pickups were great but the fact that they were twice as large meant guitars made for single coil pickups, such as the Telecaster, would not be able to use them without modifications.   Continue reading →

    Guitar Mods: Scalloped Fretboard
    [caption id="attachment_2291" align="alignright" width="300"]scalloped '[/caption] Although scalloped fretboards aren’t as common as they once were, it is still a worthy customization if you’re looking to make bends and lead techniques a bit quicker and easier. Scalloping a fretboard basically entails sanding a deep curve between each fret (as shown in the image to the right) in order to reduce the friction between the fingers and the wood. Although scalloped frets help promote good technique and allow for much better vibrato, it can cause less experienced players to have problems trying to play in tune.
